Work done till now
Samvad sustainable solutions was founded in 2019, our story began when we purchased a set of cloth sanitary pad from ecofemme for personal use, however when we dwelled deep into the cause to make cloth pads in the age of disposables and its impact on women’s health by using disposables, we started researching more on the magnitude of the health issues and especially menstrual health issue in our rural/tribal India.
We stumbled upon an eye opening data of the number of menstruating women in India vs the period practices they have. Also we came across this huge issue of menstrual waste being handled by rag pickers and drain clogging due to improper disposal of disposable pads. Also we learnt about the pity of improper education of period products in our rural and tribal women, they use all kinds of rags, grass, in some areas even ash to soak up their menstrual blood. It was an eye opener for us that inspired us to be a part of this mission to gift a healthy and happy period practice to our rural/tribal Indian women.
Hence Samvad was born in 2019; we joined hands with few leading NGO’s of India working on menstrual hygiene projects in different parts of the country and planned sessions on the subject. We started our journey from small villages in tribal India and took sessions on menstrual hygiene to more about their existing practices. We designed our cotton cloth reusable washable sanitary pads and started to transfer the skill to these women on how to make their own cloth sanitary pads and use it. Once they became the users it caused a ripple effect in their villages and in turn villages around them as well.
Till Jan 2023 we have our presence in 5 states in India and we have successfully partnered with NGOs to transform the lives of more than 1000 women and the number is growing day by day
